A Lesson in Commitment

by the smell of tampered grounds
i thought you would be a business man
or someone to respect
but two years later
you're still calling me up
in the early morning
as another girl cooks you breakfast
or by the light of dusk
while she inks her skin
with your name, probably.
it's been a year and you're still
asking me for drinks we'll never go get
or for a kiss in public
you know i won't return
before you go home
to a girl who takes your picture
and doesn't know any better.

Got this prompt from NaPoWriMo, a site dedicated to giving poetry prompts for every day in April. As I'm already attempting to write that much anyway, I decided why not. Today's was "an un-love poem." As always, take this at face value or consider it fiction - whichever makes you happier. x
